Red Cross, Entertainment Industry Partner to Recruit Volunteers
Prospective Red Cross volunteers can find service opportunities through a new Web site sponsored by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF).
Monday, October 05, 2009 What do the American Red Cross and the Entertainment Industry Foundation have in common?
Community service.
These two philanthropic giants, both with strong traditions of volunteerism, are joining creative forces to encourage people to participate in the national service movement by helping to meet the needs of their local communities.
Red Cross volunteer opportunities are now posted on iParticipate, a Web site supported by the Entertainment Industry Foundation. Through iParticipate, you can apply to become a Red Cross volunteer.
Entertainment industry members have helped further the Red Cross mission time and time again. Currently 34 volunteers make up the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet. For the seventh consecutive year, Sherry Lansing, former chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, is chairing the group.
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis is serving as spokesperson for Do More Than Cross Your Fingers, the Red Cross program that empowers people to be prepared for an emergency. And Greg Biffle, blood donor and NASCAR race car driver, is leading the national effort to increase blood donations. And many, many more.
About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
