Send a Card, Thank a Hero

By Cameron D. Crawford, American Red Cross

Friday, December 05, 2008 — This holiday season, team up with the American Red Cross and bring good cheer.

National Mall
Young people gather to sign holiday cards at American Red Cross headquarters on the National Mall in our nation’s capital.

Simply signing a card and adding a note of encouragement is a powerful way to say thank you to wounded soldiers, service members, military families and veterans.  Help us spread holiday goodwill, encouragement and appreciation to those who give so much for us on a daily basis.

The American Red Cross and Pitney Bowes Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign is collecting a million holiday cards from people across the United States.  Cards will be screened, sorted and respectfully delivered into the hands of military personnel and their families.

Cards must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, December 10, 2008. The American Red Cross has a rich history of dedication and service to the armed forces.  This year, again, you can help honor America's unsung heroes—our military service members.

We need your help to share this message.  Please visit the Holiday Mail for Heroes Web site for information on how to get involved.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
