Red Cross Employees Alerted About Email Scam
Friday, January 11, 2008 We have been made aware of communications circulating via email claiming that the Red Cross Donation Department is looking for employees in the European Region. The email states a salary and asks anyone over 21 to apply for the position by forwarding their resume to Human Resources Department at an address that is not affiliated with the American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross does not advertise for employment by sending emails to private email accounts. This is an email scam using the American Red Cross brand, and the Internet Crime Complaint Center of the FBI has been notified. If you receive this email, treat it with caution. To avoid becoming a victim of fraud, do not forward any personal information in response to unsolicited and suspicious email.
If you are seeking employment with the Red Cross, use only authorized Red Cross Websites. For information on employment with the American Red Cross, go to www.redcross.org/jobs. Or for information on employment with the International Committee of the Red Cross, go to www.icrc.org.
About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
