As of August 30, 2009, the American Red Cross and its partners have assisted more than 4 million people through their programs and more than 111 million people through disease prevention activities.
Through the generosity of thousands of individuals, foundations and corporations, the American Red Cross has received approximately $ 581 million in donations, of which $509 million has been expended.
SELECT INDICATORS FROM AMERICAN RED CROSS PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
- Provided health assistance, such as training in Community-Based First Aid and raising awareness of avian influenza, to more than 3.6 million people in Indonesia.
- Together with partners, built or maintained 11,200 transitional shelters, benefiting an estimated 56,000 people in Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Supporting the construction and repair of more than 4,600 permanent houses, benefiting an estimated 23,000 people in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and the Maldives.
- Provided psychosocial support to 733,700 people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and the Maldives. American Red Cross-supported programs have also trained more than 29,200 people in these countries to provide psychosocial support or psychological first aid to others.
- Provided access to improved water sources for an estimated 196,000 people across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Kenya.
- Reached more than 76,100 people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Thailand through hygiene promotion programs.
- Helped ensure that 6,900 people in Indonesia, Thailand and Kenya are covered by prepositioned stocks of relief supplies.
- Helping 580 schools and communities in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand create new or improved disaster response plans.
- Together with partners, benefiting an estimated 442,500 people in Indonesia and Sri Lanka through livelihoods projects such as the reconstruction and rehabilitation of public infrastructure, markets and community centers, and the provision of microfinance assistance or productive resources.
