Swimming, Water Safety and Lifeguarding

Teach Swimming and Water Safety Courses in Your Community

If you’re at least 16 years old and a proficient swimmer, you can become an American Red Cross Water Safety instructor. Learn to teach children and adults to swim, and give water safety presentations to kids and their parents. It’s a fun and meaningful job that’s in high demand. Plus, Red Cross certification is recognized nationwide so you can work anywhere in the United States.

Teach Others to Become Lifeguards

If you’re at least 17 years old and have a basic-level Lifeguarding certificate, you can become an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor. Learn how to train lifeguard candidates to protect the lives of others! You can teach them the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies.

Become certified to teach the following:

  • Lifeguarding (including First Aid)
  • Shallow Water Attendant
  • CPR/AED for Lifeguards
  • Lifeguard Management
  • Administering Emergency Oxygen
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  • Basic Water Rescue
  • Safety Training for Swim Coaches

Fulfill Safety Education Requirement with Safety Training for Swim Coaches Course

The American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches course was developed in collaboration with USA Swimming to educate swim coaches and other aquatic professionals how to prevent and respond to emergencies while on the pool deck. The Red Cross also offers courses in first aid and CPR/AED to ensure swim coaches have the lifesaving knowledge and skills they need to meet the safety requirements as established by USA Swimming. Red Cross programs in water safety, first aid and CPR/AED are available for any age and can be tailored to the needs of specific groups and individuals.
