ISBT 128 tools and resources
ISBT 128 is a global standard for the identification, labeling and information processing of human blood, tissue and organ products across international borders and health care systems. AABB has mandated that accredited blood banks and transfusion services convert to ISBT 128 labeling by May 2008. In preparation for this conversion, the American Red Cross will be converting its own blood product labels from Codabar to ISBT 128. Once the conversion takes place, hospital customers must be able to receive ISBT 128 labels to use American Red Cross blood products and services. It is essential that hospitals are prepared for this transition to ensure continuity of service. Below are tools and reference documents to help hospitals prepare for the transition to ISBT 128.
