What Can I Do Now?

There are five actions the American Red Cross encourages every organization, individual and family to take to prepare for any emergency or disaster.

  1. Make a plan.

  2. Assemble a disaster supplies kit.

  3. Get trained.
Contact your local American Red Cross chapter for class descriptions, times, costs and information about first aid, CPR, AED and Community Disaster Education. Community Disaster Education presentations can provide you with more information on how to prepare for disasters.
  4. Volunteer.
Encourage the public to give their time through volunteering.
  5. Give blood.
Encourage the public to become regular and frequent blood donors to ensure a blood supply that meets all needs, all of the time.

For more detailed information, see www.redcross.org/prepare/ and http://www.redcross.org/article/0,1072,0_1_1418,00.html. The latter link provides preparedness recommendations tied to each of the five threat levels designated by the Homeland Security Advisory System.
