Download the Be Red Cross Ready checklists to help you and your family prepare for different types of disasters, including hurricanes, severe winter storms and flooding. Review American Red Cross tips for preparing family members with disabilities, seniors, children and pets for disasters.
Home fires represent the majority of the 70,000 disasters the Red Cross responds to each year. Last year, in New Jersey the Red Cross responded to 1,063 disasters, mostly home fires, that displaced 1,680 families. The Red Cross has simple steps you can take to help prevent home fires and protect yourself should a fire occur in your home or neighborhood.
Put preparedness in your pocket by downloading our FREE Red Cross Apps. Our mobile apps provide instant access to expert advice for everyday emergencies. The five Red Cross disaster preparedness apps give people local and real-time information for severe weather or disaster threats, and offer step-by-step instructions that let users know what to do before, during and after a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, wildfire and flood.
Another important feature in the disaster preparedness apps allows users to let family and friends quickly know they are safe with a customizable “I’m Safe” alert for Facebook, Twitter, email and text. The apps also have interactive quizzes that allow people to earn badges that they can share with friends on social networks.
Apps are available in English and Spanish for iPhones and Android devices in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. They can also be found at redcross.org/apps.
