Patterson To Donate To Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund
For Immediate Release September 28, 2204, Washington, DC
WASHINGTON, Wednesday, September 29, 2004
Event: | 2004 Olympic Champion, gymnast Carly Patterson, plans to visit the American Red Cross headquarters in Washington, DC to take a tour of the Disaster Operations Center and make a financial donation to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Patterson returned from Athens with three Olympic medals. The U.S. women won silver in the team competition, as well as the second highest finish for the Americans in a fully attended Olympic Games. She also earned a silver medal on her specialty, the beam.
Patterson was recently personally touched by just how devastating a hurricane can be. She was in Tallahassee training for a tour and had to move locations for safety reasons. That is when she decided to make a financial donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. The Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to provide immediate assistance such as shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Donations to the Disaster Relief Fund enable the Red Cross to respond to more than 70,000 disasters each year ranging from the recent hurricanes that have ravaged the Southeast to floods, tornadoes, earthquakes and house fires.
