"The Notagains": A Disaster Preparedness and Response CD-ROM for Children

Computer Requirements
The Red Cross Disaster Safety CD-ROM contains two versions of the computer program. One version will work on a PC, and one version will work on a Power Mac.

To run the CD-ROM you need:

  1. Pentium PC with Windows 95 and a minimum clock speed of 100 MHz. The faster the clock speed, the better or a Power Mac with Systems 7.1 or better.
  2. A minimum of 16 MB RAM
  3. A 2X CD drive or faster
  4. A color monitor with 640 x 480 resolution with thousands of colors
  5. A sound card with speakers

CD-ROM Operating Instructions

  1. Turn on the computer. Go to Windows 95 main screen (for PC) or open computer as usual method (for Mac).
  2. Open the CD-ROM drawer and load the CD-ROM.
  3. Turn your speakers on and adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level.
  4. Click on the "Start" button. Enter the following information in the dialogue box for the name of the program to run:

    For a PC: (X):ARC66.EXE
    For a Mac: (X):ARC66.MAC
    Where "X" is the designator of the CD-ROM drive of your computer. Hit "enter."

  5. The CD-ROM will ensure your computer can run the program. If there are any problems, it will let you know. Otherwise, you will be prompted to click "ok" on a box on the screen to indicate that you are ready to run the program.
  6. The program will begin to run. Just click on things to explore the program.

To Stop the Program:

  1. Go back to the main screen of "The Notagains" program.
  2. Click on the bus stop. The program will end.
  3. Alternate (emergency) end: just hit the escape key. (This works on a PC only, not a Mac).
  4. Remove the CD-ROM following the usual procedures that your computer requires.

    Return to "The Notagains" main page.
