HIV/AIDS Facts Courses for Educators, Counselors, and Other Volunteers – available in English and Spanish

HIV/AIDS Starter Facts Course
Want to learn or review the basic facts about HIV infection and AIDS? This four-hour course may be offered through your local Red Cross chapter. People take this course:

  • For professional reasons.
  • For personal development.
  • As a prerequisite for becoming a Red Cross instructor.

Persons passing a written, multiple-choice test on HIV/AIDS facts with a minimum score of 80 percent can receive the Starter Facts certification without taking the course.

HIV/AIDS Facts Practice Course
Need to communicate the basic facts about HIV and AIDS? This four and a half hour course builds on the information learned or reviewed in the Starter Facts course. Participants practice answering questions about HIV and AIDS and develop skills to communicate in a culturally sensitive and nonjudgmental way.

Facts Practice is a prerequisite for all American Red Cross HIV/AIDS Fundamentals Instructor courses. Participants must hold a Starter Facts certificate in order to enter the Facts Practice course.
