Information for Lifeguarding Program Instructors and Instructor Trainers
Instructors: take note! The American Red Cross released a new Lifeguarding program in January 2001 that offers a variety of features including shorter instruction time, more skills-based rescue scenarios, and optional modules such as AED, Oxygen Administration, and Waterfront Lifeguarding. The new program incorporates the Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC) 2000 guidelines. Contact your local Red Cross chapter to find out what you need to do to upgrade to the new program.
New Lifeguarding Patch and Banner Available!
A new patch, intended for wear by American Red Cross-trained lifeguards, is now available! By wearing the patch, lifeguards let patrons know that they are trained by America's most trusted health and safety training organization: American Red Cross.
This colorful, round patch is 2-3/4 inches across, embroidered, and reads American Red Cross Trained Lifeguard. It can be sewn onto shorts, hats, t-shirts, or swimsuits. When ordering patches from your local chapter, please refer to GSD stock number 321058.
Distribute the Lifeguarding patch to candidates receiving Lifeguarding certificates, provide it during a pre-season orientation, or use it to show your appreciation for guards who are already certified.
Also available to American Red Cross customers is a banner that reads, American Red Cross Swimming and Aquatic Programs Offered Here. This durable banner measures 2 feet by 8 feet and has grommets that enable you to hang it inside or outside your facility.
