Project Lifesaver - Increasing Public Access to Defibrillation
The dedication of the American Red Cross to increasing the public's knowledge of the Cardiac Chain of Survival, and the need for public access to defibrillation led to the development of an initiative entitled Project Lifesaver: Increasing Public Access to Defibrillation. Project Lifesaver is designed to raise public awareness about the importance AEDs, to increase the number of people trained to use an AED and to increase the number of AEDs available to the public. Specifically, the American Red Cross is focused on:
- Publicizing the Cardiac Chain of Survival and the steps necessary to respond to cardiac emergencies
- Motivating the public to obtain CPR/AED training and respond to cardiac emergencies
- Assisting organizations, workplaces and communities in acquiring AEDs by supporting federal and state legislation and facilitating purchasing options
- Acting as an informational resource for all aspects of public access defibrillation
