Sport Safety Training
An injured athlete is every coach's worst fear. Whether you're coaching little league, high school students or this country's elite athletes, you feel responsible for making sure your athletes are safe both in practice and during competition. But sports-related injuries do occur. That's why the American Red Cross and the United States Olympic Committee have teamed up to bring you a newly revised Sport Safety Training Program specifically designed for coaches, athletic trainers and others interested in sports.
The goals of Sport Safety Training are simple:
- To keep athletes safe;
- To enable coaches and trainers to prevent, prepare for and respond to sports-related injuries;
- To raise awareness of safety issues in athletics; and
- To provide an atmosphere in which athletes can train and compete with the confidence that their coach has taken a sport safety course.
Play it Safe with Sport Safety Training
Sport Safety Training is designed to help coaches, athletic trainers and other participants identify and eliminate potentially hazardous conditions in various sports environments, recognize emergencies and make appropriate decisions for first aid care.
Flexible course options-Including a stand-alone Sports Injury Prevention and First Aid Course with additional training available in adult and child CPR and automated external defibrillation-allow you to design the course that's right for you. The training features video, hands-on classroom instruction, and interactive group exercises and activities, plus a handy reference book to use and keep with you during competitions and practices.
Become an American Red Cross Instructor
Flexible training options make it easier than ever to become a Sport Safety Training instructor and offer training to your coaches and trainers at your convenience. Current American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED instructors need only complete a self-study to become a Sport Safety Training instructor. An abbreviated instructor training for certified and/or licensed athletic trainers and other professionals is now available.
