Hispanic HIV/AIDS Program
Information for Hispanic HIV/AIDS Program Instructor Trainers
Frequently Asked
Questions I'm still not clear about the dual
certification for the Hispanic HIV/AIDS Program. How does dual
certification work and why is it important? It is crucial for all
instructor trainers to be well-informed about dual certifications. Some
instructor candidates who attend the Hispanic HIV/AIDS instructor course
can obtain two certificates--one as an instructor in Hispanic HIV/AIDS
Program: Fundamentals and another as an instructor in Basic HIV/AIDS
Program: Fundamentals.
Instructor candidates can be bilingual in English and Spanish or
monolingual in either one. Likewise, the course can be offered in either
language as long as we consider the populations that these candidates will
later work with. Candidates who meet all requirements and are bilingual
can obtain both certificates. A candidate who meets the requirements,
speaks only English, and works with Hispanic/Latino populations who speak
primarily English, can obtain both certificates.
A candidate who speaks only Spanish will receive a certificate as a
Hispanic Program instructor only. That candidate will not be certified as
a Basic Program instructor since the Basic Program is only available in
English. Instructor candidates who receive only one certificate do not
qualify to be instructor trainers since ITs must be certified in both the
Hispanic and Basic Fundamentals instructor courses.
