Longfellow’s WHALE Tales

The national benchmarking format was used when creating the Whales Tales curriculum alignment charts. This format breaks the courses up among three grade groups: K-4, 5-8 and 9-12.

Health – Grades K-4
Health – Grades 5-8

Science – Grades K-4

Science – Grades 5-8

An easy-to-follow lesson plan for parents, teachers or other adult leaders helps teach children about safe behavior in, on or around the water. No prior swimming experience or water safety training is necessary for an individual to lead the activities offered in the packet.

The Leader’s Packet includes a CD-ROM that contains:

  • Topic outlines for the leader (8)
  • Topic fact sheets for the leader (10)
  • Reproducible activity sheets (48)
  • Activity sheets answer key
  • Electronic versions of eight color posters
  • Certificates
  • Activity report
  • Video clip of modeled presentation

Leaders can choose flexible activities from any of eight water safety topics. Longfellow’s WHALE Tales makes learning water safety easy because each lesson is reinforced with colorful posters, worksheets, stickers and a video staring Longfellow, the friendly animated whale.
