First Aid: Responding to Emergencies

The national benchmarking format was used when creating the Responding to Emergenciescurriculum alignment charts. This format breaks the courses up among three grade groups: K-4, 5-8 and 9-12.

Health – Grades 9-12
Science – Grades 9-12

Developed for high schools, colleges and universities, this course conveniently fits into a semester or quarter schedule and can be adapted to your course outline. A minimum of 27 hours, this training combines lecture, discussion and simulated emergency situations to teach reliable responses for numerous emergency situations. Students learn about:

  • Proper care and special considerations for emergencies involving adults, infants and children including CPR
  • American Red Cross Check-Call-Care template-an action plan for the lay responder
  • First Aid for injuries and sudden illnesses
  • Preventing disease transmission
  • Injury management
  • Medical emergencies
  • Healthy lifestyle tips
  • Option wilderness basic first aid information
  • Optional emergency childbirth information
