America's Promise: The Alliance for Youth
Officially launched in April 1997, America's Promise is a national campaign striving to take the mission and goals of the Presidents' Summit For America's Future forward. By coordinating involvement of organizations and individuals from the private, public, and non-profit sectors, America's Promise aids in ensuring that our nation's young people have access to five fundamental resources that are necessary to maximize their potential and give back to society in meaningful ways.
Corporation for National Service
Engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to their communities. Through its three main programs-AmeriCorps, Learn and Serve America, and the National Senior Service Corps-the Corporation provides a broad range of opportunities for Americans to serve their communities. (202) 606-5000.
Energize
An international training, consulting, and publishing firm specializing in volunteerism, Energize assists organizations with their volunteer efforts. Their Website includes an on-line bookstore, article and book excerpts, volunteer recognition and success stories and more.
HOPE worldwide
HOPE worldwide is an international charity that changes lives by harnessing the compassion and commitment of dedicated staff and volunteers to deliver sustainable, high-impact, community-based services to the poor and needy. This faith-based relief and development organization, founded in 1991 by the International Churches of Christ, is dedicated to serving the world's most poor, sick and suffering. In the U.S., HOPE worldwide is located in 40 cities and works in cooperation over 135 churches that provide more than 20,000 volunteers. HOPE worldwide volunteers mobilize to help their communities with issues of disaster preparedness and relief, education, children, seniors, employment and community outreach.
National Center for Non-Profit Boards
The National Center for Nonprofit Boards is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations by strengthening their boards of directors. The world's largest, most comprehensive publisher of material on nonprofit governance, they offer booklets, books, videos and audiotaped guidance for enhancing your board.
SERVEnet/Youth Service America
Created as a tool for the volunteer and service community, SERVEnet brings volunteers and community organizations together on line. This site is also designed to bring resources to volunteer-based non-profit organizations in a quick and easy way. SERVEnet is the home of Youth Service America (YSA), an alliance of organizations committed to community and national service. YSA is committed to building healthy towns and cities and sponsors National Youth Service Day.
The Points of Light Foundation
A co-sponsor of the Presidents' Summit for America's Future, the Points of Light Foundation's mission is to engage more people effectively in volunteer service to help solve serious social problems. To accomplish this mission, the Foundation works with the nation's network of 500 Volunteer Centers, national and local non-profits, government, corporations, and the media. The Points of Light Foundation's Youth and Education Outreach area offers resources, training workshops and technical assistance in youth service, service learning and youth leadership. VolunteerMatch is a leader in the nonprofit world dedicated to helping everyone find a great place to volunteer. The organization offers a variety of online services to support a community of nonprofit, volunteer and business leaders committed to civic engagement. Their popular service welcomes millions of visitors a year and has become an internet recruiting tool for more than 40,000 nonprofit organizations. The American Red Cross has partnered with VolunteerMatch to provide over 700 hundred local Red Cross units with the tools to recruit volunteers through the Red Cross/VolunteerMatch portal. Over 40 percent of all American Red Cross volunteers are comprised of young people under the age of 25. The American Red Cross works in collaboration with many other National Youth Serving Organizations.
AmeriCorps
Involves people of all ages in strengthening America's communities through service. Currently, over 20,000 AmeriCorps members serve full or part-time in more than 350 programs nationwide. In exchange for service, members receive education awards. AmeriCorps programs are as diverse as the communities they serve, but they are united by a common mission: Getting Things Done, Strengthening Communities, Encouraging Responsibility, and Expanding Opportunity. Nonprofit organizations interested in applying for AmeriCorp members' help should contact their State Commission on National Service for application Information and materials.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BB/BS) is a national youth service organization providing positive youth development based primarily on one-to-one relationships between adult volunteer mentors and children from single-parent homes. BB/BS helps youth increase their self-esteem, reach their highest potential, meet the challenges of childhood and adolescence.
B'NAI B'RITH Youth Organization
The B'NAI B'RITH Youth Organization (BBYO) is the world's oldest and largest Jewish youth serving agency. BBYO is a youth led organization which provides opportunities for Jewish youth to develop their leadership potential and commitment to service in both the Jewish and general communities in which they live.
Boys and Girls Clubs of America
A national network of more than 2,000 neighborhood-based facilities, clubs provide guidance-oriented character development programs on a daily basis for children 6-18 years old. Some 2.8 million young people are served annually, primarily from disadvantaged circumstances. Key programs emphasize educational achievement, career exploration, drug and alcohol avoidance, health and fitness, gang and violence prevention, cultural enrichment, leadership development, and community service.
Boy Scouts of America
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the nation's largest youth development organizations, with 5.3 million youth and adult members. Its purpose is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in citizenship, and to develop personal fitness. More than 90 million people have been involved with the BSA since 1910.
Camp Fire Boys and Girls
Provides co-educational programming for approximately 670,000 participants annually through 128 councils in 42 states and the District of Columbia. Core services include self-reliance and community service, camping/environmental education, child care, mentoring opportunities, and leadership development.
Girl Scouts of the USA
The world's largest organization for girls, with over 2.5 million enrolled. Five program age levels are offered for girls 5 through 17, providing a safe, supportive way for girls to participate in projects and service.
Key Club International
ARC entered into a partnership with Key Club in 1998 to help their members work on their community service themes each school year.
National 4-H Council
The National 4-H Council helps provide experiential, co-educational programs and activities to young people nationwide, including citizenship, cultural education, global education, intergenerational programming, volunteerism and service learning. Their At The Table Project is a national initiative hosted by National 4-H Council's Innovative Center for Community and Youth Development. At The Table provides resources and focuses on the issue of building a national movement to involve youth in decision-making.
YMCA of the USA
Like Red Cross, YMCAs are at the heart of community life in neighborhoods and towns across the nation. They work to meet the health and social service needs of men, women, and children.

A national training and resource development organization dedicated to promoting active citizenship through youth and adult partnerships, they offer a training curriculum called Youth in Governance designed to train youth as partners in the governance process.

This website, designed to provide "Guidance for Grown-ups," leads you to resources for improving the lives of children and families in your neighborhood and beyond. It is chock-full of information including helpful links, subscriptions to free Connect for Kids newsletters and "Ideas for Action." The "Profiles in Action" section provides an opportunity for your unit to nominate a KidsChamp - a person or program that is making your community a better place for kids.

Do Something
Do Something is a national nonprofit organization which seeks to inspire and support young people of all backgrounds to take problem-solving action in their communities. Its vision is that young people across the country will routinely take thoughtful and directed action to build measurably better communities. Through its BRICK Awards program, Do Something funds innovative projects started by community activists under the age of 30.

Learn and Serve America
Supports service-learning programs that address local needs in education, public safety, human service, and the environment. More than 780,000 students currently provide vitally needed services to their communities through Learn and Serve America's programs. Its community-based programs are administered by State Commissions on National Service and non-profit organizations. Grants are available to implement, expand, or replicate community-based service learning programs. Participants are students and out-of-school youth ages 5-17. Strives to turn good intentions into action. Provides advice on volunteering, but also online resources for Volunteer Managers and links to Web Sites with helpful information about volunteers and volunteerism.
National Assembly/ National Collaboration for Youth
The American Red Cross is one of the "27 of the most active national youth development organizations in the United States" comprising the National Collaboration for Youth. The group works on behalf of all of America's young people, providing a united voice for all youth and advocating for increased resources and opportunities for youth.
The National Youth Development Information Center
is a new on-line resource that provides information on funding, training for youth development professionals, project ideas, youth-related statistics, federal and state policy issues impacting youth, evaluating youth programs, and more.

National Helpers Network, Inc.
The National Helpers Network, Inc., works to make service learning a possibility for every young person. They assist schools and agencies in meeting the developmental needs of young adolescents through training, program development, research, advocacy and information sharing. Their extensive library includes program guides to assist both youth and adult leaders to implement quality service learning programs. The Learning Helper's Model series includes guides for anyone leading adolescents in work with younger children, from preparing the youth for service through reflection. The Partners Program Model series helps youth involved in intergenerational programs. Their Youth To Youth: Training Guidelines for Young Adult-Led Service Programs provides practical guidance for preparing young adults to assume leadership and teaching roles with young adolescents. Finally, their newest resource Common Ground/Common Purpose provides help for young people from diverse backgrounds to appreciate differences and come together to solve a mutual problem in their communities.
National Network for Youth
Advocates for youth, especially those who have fewer opportunities, through its work with congressional and administration officials. Promotes community youth development, which emphasizes the importance of support from an entire community, not just schools or a handful of programs and activities.

Offers Service learning Seminars as well as Youth Leadership Development Seminars covering topics such as "How to Establish Dynamic Youth Leadership Programs" and "Adult/Youth Partnership: The Keys to Success."

Youth on Board
Provides training, consultation, and publications on how to involve young people in decision making. They offer several training resources for individuals and groups, ranging from two-hour introductory sessions to weeklong train-the-trainer courses. Their SureShot introductory workshop guides groups of adults and young people through key concepts and includes action plans for involving youth in governance.
