Red Cross Volunteer Who Uses a Wheelchair
Earns the Lifetime Achievement Award

A Red Cross Bloodmobile
|
Long time volunteer Guy Buckle was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Rockingham County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Reidsville, NC. Guy has been a member of the Board of Directors on and off for more than 25 years, but this is only one of many areas of the Red Cross in which Guy has been involved.
In the early 1970's Guy established the chapter's first high school blood drive. That very high school still continues it's twice a year blood drive and receives honors every year for its participation. Guy also served as the Blood Drive Coordinator and recruiter for many of his 25 years of service.
Guy's efforts don't stop at blood and the board. He was a front line volunteer when a tornado hit the area. He eagerly wanted to help make a difference and did.
In his many roles, Guy is a volunteer that any chapter would be proud to have. In fact Jana Nowell, Executive Director of the chapter, said, "I would like to have a hundred volunteers like Guy. He attends all board meetings, community meetings and is active in all parts of the chapter."
While this all may seem rather ordinary for Red Cross volunteers, Guy has accomplished all of these tasks while using a wheelchair. He is an inspiration to all of those with whom he works.
The American Red Cross invites persons with disabilities to volunteer with the American Red Cross. We believe that you add a richness to our organization, and we are committed to providing the programs, people, and services that you need to become a volunteer.
