Lowe's has been a member of the Annual Disaster Giving Program since the fall of 1999 supporting the Disaster Relief Fund with a minimum gift of $250,000 annually.
Although Lowe's commitment is for $250,000 per year, since 1999 they have donated more than $6 million to the Red Cross in cash and in-kind contributions.
The majority of dollars have gone to national priorities, with the exception of their annual Customer Donation Program that has raised funds for local chapters' life-saving programs and services.
The company also sponsors innovative marketing programs surrounding the issues of disaster relief and home safety, particularly during the times in which the Red Cross is raising money for disaster relief efforts, that have generated at a minimum of 100 million impressions.
Lowe's demonstrated its commitment to emergency preparedness by launching a public service campaign calling on Americans to Pledge to Prepare for all types of emergencies. This campaign combines the preparedness expertise of the Red Cross and Home Safety Council with the marketing resources of Lowe's to build awareness and increase visibility around the annual customer donation program for chapter programs and services. Additionally, Lowe's and Kidde, a leading global supplier of fire safety products, matched $100,000 of the customer donations for the American National Red Cross.
Since April of 2000, the Red Cross has collaborated with Lowe's, on the innovative program Racing for Relief. This turnkey program implemented following large-scale national disasters, features Lowe's NASCAR racecar driver and Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet member, Jimmie Johnson presenting a check to the Red Cross and a donation of $48 (Jimmie's racecar number) by Lowe's for every lap completed. To date, the program has raised more than $256,000 toward disaster relief efforts for hurricanes, tornados and floods.
Lowe's has also been a generous lead sponsor of American Red Cross National Conventions in Phoenix and Charlotte.
