Shallow Water Lifeguarding

Class Format - Classroom ID: 1d2e4ba027 Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies in shallow water up to 5 feet and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over Prerequisites • Minimum age: 15 years • Swim 100 yards continuously. • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. • Complete a timed event within 50 seconds. o Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. o Submerge to a depth of 4to 5 feetto retrieve a 10-pound object. o Return to the surface and walk or swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object. o Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
