The fifth annual Lake Norman Excursion bicycle ride will take place Saturday, July 14, at the Lowe’s Headquarters in Mooresville.
The fundraiser, which benefits the American Red Cross, draws nearly 1,000 people every year. Events this year include:
• 5K run/walk with awards for top finishers
• 10-mile Family Fun Bicycle Ride
• 40-, 65- and timed 100-mile bicycle rides
The 5K run/walk and the Family Fun Ride take place on a closed-loop course on the Lowe’s campus, which means families won’t have to worry about traffic as they enjoy a rolling course.
The 40-, 68- and 100-mile rides take participants through scenic countryside in Iredell, Rowan and Catawba counties.
Last year’s event raised nearly $20,000 for the local Red Cross. Race organizers hope to exceed that number this year.
Money raised is used right in our local community to shelter, clothe and feed victims of disasters; train thousands of people in First Aid, CPR and other life-saving skills; and connect military members overseas with their loved ones at home.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
