2012 Real Heroes


Do you know someone who has performed an extraordinary act of courage, selflessness or kindness and dedication in Washington County? If so, nominate them today to become a 2012 Real Hero!

The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross needs your help to identify and recognize local heroes for their selflessness, courage and dedication to our community. Your Real Hero nominee may be a friend or family member, a neighbor, firefighter or police officer, a member of the military or a local business or service organization.

REAL HEROES is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of everyday heroes in our community. Help us find those ordinary people among us who have exhibited extraordinary acts of courage, selflessness, kindness and dedication in Washington County. Award winners will be honored at the REAL HEROES reception & dinner celebration on June 27, 2012.

Honor your friend, co-worker or neighbor by nominating them today in one of the following categories: Commitment to Community Hero An individual who has made a significant contribution towards enriching the lives of others and shown passionate dedication to making Washington County a better place to live.

  • Community Partner Hero: A community group, organization or company that consistently demonstrates a commitment to making a difference in Washington County.
  • Education Hero: An individual who has had a significant impact on a student, group of students or school through kindness, courage and compassion.
  • Health Care Hero: A nominee must be from the medical field and have demonstrated an outstanding level of service to the residents of Washington County and the community.
  • Humanitarian Hero: A Washington County resident that is committed to humanitarian aid efforts locally, nationally or internationally.
  • Emergency Response Hero: A nominee must be from an emergency response (fire & rescue, law enforcement, emergency mgmt) field and have demonstrated an outstanding level of service to Washington County residents & the community.
  • Senior Good Samaritan: A Senior, 65 or older, who has demonstrated kindness, selflessness and compassion in service for the betterment of the community.
  • Youth Good Samaritan: Nominee high school age or younger who has stepped forward in a time of crisis to help another person, worked toward the betterment of the community or performed a lifesaving action
  • Military Hero: Nominee is a member of the armed forces (active, retired, commissioned or non-commissioned) whose actions go above and beyond the call of duty.
  • Animal Hero: A nominee may be a person or organization that has helped save or prevent abuse of an animal or animals. Nominee could also be an animal who has saved a life or prevented a serious accident from occurring.
  • Nominees for the award must live, work or be active in Washington County.     Nominations must be received by March 31, 2012 for entry.
