The American Red Cross North Texas Region is hosting the second annual Hurricane Rally in Tyler to recruit and train new volunteers in the area before storms affect our area during 2013 Hurricane Season. This extra preparedness will help the Red Cross in East Texas as it remains the go-to evacuation site for the gulf area during hurricanes. Train and prepare today in a dynamic group environment so you can answer the call of help when needed. Attendees will learn how the Red Cross responds to hurricane disasters in the East Texas area, from setting up large-scale shelters to feeding operations.
In 2008, the American Red Cross provided a safe place to stay for nearly 8,000 evacuees fleeing from Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Last year, the Red Cross provided a shelter and meals in the Tyler area for evacuees from Hurricane Isaac. These operations were the result of trained volunteers who were prepared to help in a moment’s notice. Train to be one of them or brush up on your skills through training that will only be available at the 2013 Hurricane Rally.
This event is free for all attendees. If you are an existing volunteer, you can register now through Volunteer Connection. New volunteers are welcome also! Please fill out a volunteer application on Redcross.org/EastTexas & register for the rally. New volunteer orientation will be available at the event.
