National Capital Red Cross Salute to Service Gala
Military, government, corporate and community leaders will join together for this inspirational evening, which highlights the historical relationship between the Red Cross and the military and their families.

The American Red Cross will honor men and women of the military and their families at its “Salute to Service” Gala on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The celebration is the largest fundraising event of the year for the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region. Funds raised are be transformed into services delivered every day in our community.

Gigi Schumm, Vice President and General Manager, U.S. Public Sector, Symantec Corporation, is Chair of the event. Symantec is the Salute to Service Presenting Sponsor.

Hundreds of military, government, corporate and community leaders will join together for this inspirational evening, which highlights the historical relationship between the Red Cross and the military and their families. While celebrating the critical role connecting families with their service member during emergencies and welcoming the wounded at Joint Base Andrews on their first night on U.S. soil, the event also ensures funding so that your American Red Cross can respond to disaster in our community and beyond when and where it’s needed.

Red Cross will present the Tiffany Circle Distinguished Woman Warrior Award to Captain (Ret) Dawn Halfaker. Founder of Halfaker and Associates, she was a Military Police Officer in the United States Army. Throughout her military career, she earned respect as a dynamic leader of men and women in combat, peacekeeping, and in training in the United States, South Korea, Kuwait, and Iraq.

Entertainment will be provided by 4Troops, a group of United States combat veterans Sergeant Daniel Jens, who was a 2008 finalist on "America's Got Talent;" retired Staff Sergeant Ron Henry; Sergeant David Clemo; and Captain Meredith Melcher, the daughter of a retired three-star General. Performing music played an important role in their lives while serving in the military.
