American Red Cross Supporting Shelters, Continues to Monitor Winter Storm

The Western New York and Finger Lakes Regions of the American Red Cross continue to work with emergency management from across the 17 County region in response to the winter storm and bitter cold temperatures.

Red Cross staff and volunteers opened nine shelters Monday night in conjunction with the City of Rochester’s “Heat Sweep” program, with food and water donated by Wegmans. As of Tuesday morning, three shelter locations remain open:

·         Adams Street Community Center (85 Adams Street)

·         Campbell Street Community Center (524 Campbell Street)

·         David F. Gantt Community Center (700 North Street)

The Red Cross and the City of Rochester continue to monitor the situation and will determine needs moving forward. All current shelter locations can be found at

In addition, the Red Cross worked with the airline to provide vouchers for food and shelter for an international family of five left stranded at the Rochester International Airport.

The American Red Cross, WNY/Finger Lakes Regions provides an average of just over $1,000 in direct financial assistance to a family of four following a house fire.
