American Red Cross offers Home Health Aide training for the first time in Willits

Participants learn how to assist clients in taking care of their daily needs and everyday tasks.

For the first time, American Red Cross is offering Home Health Aide (HHA) classes to interested participants in Willits (Mendocino County). This course trains participants on how to effectively care for clients in their homes and provides valuable hands-on experience. Upon completion, participants receive 26 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

The class takes place March 4 through March 15, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The class includes 20 hours of theory and 20 hours of clinic. During the first week, the theory portion of the class is held at Mendocino County Museum, 400 E. Commercial St., Willits. During the second week, the hands-on clinic is held at Redwood Cove Healthcare Center, 1162 S. Dora St., Ukiah. Preregistration is required.

Through this class, participants learn how to work well with clients and their families. The curriculum includes how to assist clients in taking care of their daily needs and everyday tasks. Most importantly, upon successfully completing the course, participants qualify to be a Certified Home Health Aide.

In order to be eligible for the course, interested participants must have

  • a current Certified Nurse Assistant certificate
  • a completed physical exam form, dated within one year of the HHA class
  • TB (PPD) test results, dated within 6 months of the class.
  • Course costs total $450, which includes a $100.00 non-refundable registration fee. Thanks to a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), scholarships are available.
