Red Cross instructors will be delivering free preparedness trainings at more than a dozen neighborhood Ace Hardware stores throughout Colorado in February.

The hour-long workshops will cover top advice for preparing your household and your neighborhood for disasters and emergencies, and will also touch on winter-specific steps to take to safeguard yourself and your family for seasonal emergencies.

“We are bringing Preparedness to the People, at locations that are convenient for them,” said Cari Wheat, Community Preparedness and Resilience Manager for the Red Cross Mile High Region. “People go to their local hardware store to learn how to improve their homes and to buy the tools for those projects – so it’s the perfect place to reach people with tips to improve their household’s level of emergency preparedness.”

The workshops aim to help attendees take tangible steps that will help mitigate the effects of a disaster and help them bounce back more easily should a disaster strike their home or neighborhood.

“Every Ace Hardware store is locally owned, and we all strive to be ‘the helpful place’ both in our stores and in our neighborhoods,” said Andy Carlson, owner of two Colorado Ace Hardware stores. “We have been working closely with our American Red Cross partners to do everything we can to help our customers, associates, families and communities be as prepared as possible for emergencies of all types.”

The courses are free and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. See below for the schedule of workshops, or visit for more information.
