This spring semester, seven Black Hills State University students participated in a Disaster Preparedness class in conjunction with the Black Hills Area Chapter. Students explored the history, mission and trends of disaster preparedness. They were also involved in hands-on activities to increase their knowledge, build skills and learn more about community service.

On Tuesday we conducted a “graduation exercise” for these students at the Red Cross Community Building. The student assumed the roles of shelter and feeding operations workers while Red Cross volunteers played the role of shelter residents and shared their knowledge and experience with the students.
