On Saturday, June 8, members of Behind the Red, an active professionals group that supports the American Red Cross, partnered with Boulder County for a Wildfire Preparedness day of service at Heil Valley Ranch in Boulder County.

Mieke Scheirer, a volunteer and governing council member of Behind the Red, organized the event.

Twenty volunteers, including some from the Boulder community, spent the day collecting and stacking brush in designated areas in an effort to mitigate the risk of wildfires. Prescribed burns will take place in the fall.

The Wildfire Preparedness day of service was Behind the Red’s first service project of the year. They hope to organize 3-4 projects annually.
