The American Red Cross Midway-Kansas Chapter has received a $10,000 corporate gift from Bombardier Learjet and a $3,000 gift from the company’s local employee giving Learjet Care Fund to support ongoing disaster relief efforts in Oklahoma.

“The Red Cross is on the ground in Oklahoma helping people begin their path to recovery,” said Bev Morlan, regional executive director for the American Red Cross Midway-Kansas Chapter. “Thanks to the generous supporters like Bombardier Learjet and its employees, we have been able to provide food, shelter, relief supplies and comfort to those impacted by this devastating tornado.”

The $13,000 donation from Bombardier Learjet is part of the organization’s ongoing philanthropic leadership. The company is also the presenting sponsor for the Midway-Kansas Chapter’s annual Ride for the Red motorcycle event.

Since the tornado, Red Cross has:

• Deployed more than 900 Red Cross disaster workers and 45 emergency response vehicles

• Served nearly 141,000 meals and snacks

• Distributed more than 29,000 relief items

• Provided nearly 6,300 health services and mental health contacts

• Shelters are open in Moore and Shawnee in Oklahoma. Almost 350 people sought refuge in Red Cross and community shelters Tuesday night.

“This tornado was a massive storm, and Red Cross will be providing people with help for weeks to come,” Morlan said. “We are honored to be the stewards of these donated dollars, and Red Cross will ensure Bombardier Learjet and its employees’ donations empower the affected to rebuild their lives.”
