East Tennesseans Raise Nearly $12,000 for Red Cross

Once again we see people from all over the community joining together to help those in need. It's truly inspiring.

The American Red Cross of Tennessee Mountain Valley raised nearly $12,000 in November thanks to its generous donors and WATE-TV.

The Red Cross teamed up with the ABC affiliate station in Knoxville to help disaster victims in East Tennessee and across the country.

The Red Cross has responded to more than 1,000 disasters already this year in East Tennessee. Most of those involve single-family house fires.

The "Call to Action Telethon" was aimed at raising money to help Red Cross volunteers respond to those kinds of disasters.

"This is another example of why Tennessee is the Volunteer State", said Red Cross East Tennessee Regional CEO Michelle Hankes. "Once again we see people from all over the community joining together to help those in need. It's truly inspiring"

Lori Tucker, an anchor at WATE-TV, helped organize and host the telethon. She is also on the Chapter Board of Directors for the Red Cross of Tennessee Mountain Valley.
