I found out other people could use it. It's a win-win situation!

March is Red Cross Month in the United States, and one eastern Iowa man has a very special tie to the organization.

81-year-old Dean Henry is a regular at the Waterloo Red Cross. He has been donating blood every two months since he was 19 years old.

"I thought it would be good for me, ya know?" explained Henry. "To get rid of this blood and have my body rebuild it you know... So that's why I did it. Then I found out other people could use it. It's a win-win situation!"

Over his lifetime, Henry has donated more than 30 gallons of blood, an amount that could have possibly saved up to 800 people.

"I'm overwhelmed! Nice to know about those 800 people!" Henry said.

While not everyone can donate the 30 gallons that Henry has, Kelsey Reiter of the American Red Cross explains that even one blood donation can save the lives of multiple patients.
