Recent disasters have demonstrated how critical it is to invest in community preparedness

In response to the devastating disasters that have affected Colorado in recent months, ExxonMobil announced today it will donate $200,000 to support American Red Cross efforts to help Colorado communities prepare for, respond to and recover from current and future floods, wildfires and other natural disasters in the state.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all who have been impacted by the devastating floods,” said Randy Cleveland, president of XTO Energy, an ExxonMobil subsidiary with operations in Colorado. “Recent disasters across the country have demonstrated how critical it is to invest in community preparedness and resilience before disaster strikes.”

XTO Energy Inc. has a significant presence in Colorado and more than 250 employees in Denver, Durango, Rifle and Trinidad.

ExxonMobil’s donation is being directed to the American Red Cross of Colorado. The Red Cross responds to an average of more than a disaster a day in Colorado, and has helped thousands of people affected by historic wildfires and floods this year. In addition to responding to help people when disasters occur, the Red Cross works to prepare individuals, households, neighborhoods, businesses and organizations so that they are better able to withstand and bounce back from disasters.

“To help people affected by disasters, we must help individuals and communities prepare before disaster strikes. Studies have shown that $1 spent on preparedness saves $4 in response,” said Gino Greco, CEO of the American Red Cross of Colorado. “Support from local businesses like XTO Energy plays a vital role in helping us to build more resilient communities.”
