“…and a child shall lead them”

SAN ANTONIO, TX, January 9, 2013 – The student bodies from the Harmony Science Academy and the Harmony School of Innovation raised more than $1400.00 dollars for the victims of Super Storm Sandy. The school will make their donation to the American Red Cross on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 2:00pm. The ceremony will be held on the Harmony Science Academy campus located at 8505 Lakeside Parkway San Antonio, TX 78245. THE MEDIA IS INVITED TO ATTEND.

The students who attend these two schools (located in San Antonio, Texas) saw the news reports of the damage caused by SUPER STORM SANDY and immediately decided that they were going to help!

Instead of dismissing the images as just something that happens to OTHER PEOPLE, these students decided to roll up their sleeves and raise money by selling food plates and holding penny drives.

Irma Huron from the Harmony Science Academy said: “After hearing about the victims of Super Storm Sandy, our students met with their teachers. They brainstormed as to how the two schools could raise money to contribute to those in need. When they agreed to the penny drive and food plates, they went to the principal for his approval and he enthusiastically green lighted the entire deal.”

The Harmony Science Academy - National Honor Society - also held a Challenge Competition for all homeroom classes to participate in. The contest was called “Sundaes for Sandy.” The homeroom that raised the most money at the end of the day would receive “Sundaes for Sandy.”

All too often we hear stories about young people and a false sense of entitlement. The stories of unselfish students going above and beyond to help others in their time of need, however, are seldom told. Huron added: “the Harmony Science Academy is a tight knit community school that not only strives to teach our students the importance of education but the importance of community service as well.”
