Holiday weekend proves busy for volunteers

It was a busy weekend for American Red Cross volunteers, who spent it responding to disasters throughout the region.

Volunteers first reported to a water main break in Ipswich on Friday, where they set up a warming center to feed and interview affected residents.

On Saturday volunteers headed over to a fire in Lawrence that displaced ten people on Berkeley Street. Volunteers responded to a fire in Ipswich to assist impacted residents, and another fire in Gloucester. There, they provided emergency hotel stay for two families displaced by the blaze.

On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, volunteers reported to fires in Fall River, Mattapan and Abington. In Mattapan, volunteers put up six residents in a hotel. In Fall River, volunteers helped 19 people displaced by flames, and two people displaced in the Abington fire.
