Supporting the Red Cross Measles and Rubella Initiative saves the lives of children and is one of the most important donations any of us can make. - Trish Smitson, CEO of the Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Region

MYCincinnati Youth Orchestra and the International Services Department of the American Red Cross will host a concert on Friday, April 19th, 2013, to benefit the Red Cross Measles & Rubella Initiative and the growth of MYCincinnati, a free youth orchestra program for children in Price Hill. The concert will be held at Memorial Hall, 1225 Elm Street in Cincinnati, 45202, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

First on the program, Price Hill String Quartet and members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will perform two movements from Mendelssohn's beloved Octet. Next, the MYCincinnati Orchestra will perform under the baton of Robert Trevino, Associate Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Suzanne Bona of the Sunday Baroque will host the event, while a guest speaker, Michael Hawkins, a partner of Dinsmore and Shohl and the Secretary of the Board of Refugee International, will share his first-hand experience with Red Cross Measles and Rubella Initiatives in Ghana, Israel, Palestine, Vietnam and Cambodia.

Founded on the idea that personal transformation can be achieved by striving towards musical excellence, MYCincinnati offers children in Price Hill the opportunity to learn the violin, viola, cello, or bass, and to play in an orchestra. “These kids are pretty amazing in their own right,” said Matt Strauss, Director of Marketing & Neighborhood Promotion for Price Hill Will, MYCincinnati’s host organization. “But what’s even more amazing, is the fact that the kids are reaching out to help other kids make the world a better place for their future.”

The Red Cross Measles and Rubella Initiative is a partnership between the American Red Cross, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United Nations Foundation (UN Foundation), UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO). The Red Cross Measles and Rubella Initiative is able to vaccinate each child for $1.00. Volunteers for Red Cross and Red Crescent societies around the world have been instrumental in mobilizing parents to get their children vaccinated as well as raising much-needed funds.

Locally, the Cincinnati Chapter plays a significant role to ensure the success of this program through its community outreach and fundraising activities. Youth and young adults are particularly active, energized by the idea that it costs less than one dollar to protect a child. “Supporting the Red Cross Measles and Rubella Initiative saves the lives of children and is one of the most important donations any of us can make,” said Trish Smitson, CEO of the Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Region.

Tickets are $25 for balcony seats, and $35 for orchestra seating. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/328660. For more information about MYCincinnati, contact Laura Jekel at laura@pricehillwill.org or 513 251 3800 x 106.
