King Soopers, Loaf ‘N’ Jug Present Nearly $200,000 to Red Cross

During a check presentation ceremony in Englewood today, King Soopers and Loaf ‘N Jug presented nearly $200,000 to support American Red Cross disaster relief in Colorado, including the Red Cross month-long response to wildfires over the summer.

King Soopers customers and employees donated $161,357 and Loaf ‘N Jug customers and employees donated $35,000 earlier this year in response to the Red Cross disaster relief efforts to help Colorado residents affected by wildfires.

“Colorado has experienced a lot this year, and 2012 has been a record-breaking year for wildfires. The Red Cross has been there for our communities during these challenging times, and this generous gift will help ensure that we can continue to be there for our Colorado residents with a safe place to stay, a warm meal and emotional support,” said Gino Greco, CEO of the Red Cross Mile High Region.

In response to the wildfires in the summer of 2012, the Red Cross operated 19 shelters and evacuation centers and provided nearly 2,000 overnight stays for Colorado residents. The Red Cross and its partners also helped to serve more than 67,000 meals and snacks; distributed well over 23,000 relief items such as gloves, masks, clean-up supplies and hygiene items; and logged over 9,000 health and mental health contacts with affected residents and disaster workers.

King Soopers conducted a customer donation program to support the Red Cross efforts and, through the donations of King Soopers customers and employees during June, July, and August, the company raised $161,357 from more than 142 stores throughout Colorado.
