When wildfires erupted in Creek County and other areas of Oklahoma in August, the Red Cross immediately launched a major response to come to the aid of families devastated by the disaster and to support firefighters and other emergency responders.
The Red Cross housed and cared for hundreds of people in four shelters, provided more than 21,000 meals and more than 20,000 bottles of water, distributed 440 comfort kits containing essential hygiene items and handed out more than 5,250 rakes, shovels, trash bags, gloves and other supplies to help residents with clean-up efforts.
Oklahomans quickly came to the aid of the Red Cross to help with expenses associated with the relief effort. The Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation pledged to match financial donations to the Eastern Oklahoma Red Cross, dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000. More than 50 percent of the donations received as a result of the challenge came from first-time donors.
The Lobeck Taylor Family Foundation, along with partners Bank of Oklahoma and Tulsa Community Foundation, recently presented the result of their challenge grant to the Eastern Oklahoma Red Cross.
