Local Red Cross Announces New Board Members and Chairman

SAN DIEGO, JULY 26, 2012 – The American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter held their 114th Annual Meeting yesterday, July 25, 2012 at the Red Cross Chapter Headquarters located in Kearny Mesa.

During the meeting, Red Cross chapter leadership highlighted key services provided in the community over the past year. A few highlights include responding to 287 local disasters, unveiling a new state-of-the-art disaster operations center, providing lifesaving training to nearly 70,000 people, handling nearly half a million emergency calls for military members and their families through the San Diego location of the Service to the Armed Forces Emergency Communications Center and providing nutrition counseling to nearly half a million mothers and children through the Red Cross WIC program.

Joe Craver, CEO of the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross, thanked area residents, businesses, foundations and volunteers for their support, which allows the Red Cross to deliver these critical services in our community.

The Red Cross also welcomed new board members and thanked outgoing board chairman, Tom Gehring, CEO & Executive Director of San Diego County Medical Society, for his tireless commitment and service during his two-year tenure. Looking ahead, Red Cross is delighted announce the new board chair, Bill Trumpfheller, President of Nuffer, Smith, Tucker and new vice chair, Stan Hartman, First Vice President, Alliant Insurance Services, Inc. The Red Cross is also fortunate to welcome two new members to the board of directors, Rodger Doughterty, Director of Public Affairs for Kaiser Permanente and Jeff Block, Vice President and General Manager for KGTV.

“We are incredibly grateful for Tom’s leadership, support and guidance over the last two years which has brought new strength and relevance to the chapter,” said Trumpfheller. “We look forward to building from that foundation and to continue to ensure the Red Cross is able to meet the growing needs of the communities we serve.”
