If snow isn’t enough, the biggest threat may be from more cold air.

With an Alberta Clipper heading south out of Canada, we are in for another round of winter weather Tuesday evening.

The first issue will be the possibility of snow. The highest elevations in the NC Mountains are under a Winter Weather Advisory. You could pick up 1-4” according to the Blacksburg NWS. The rest of the Piedmont could get a dusting. However, there will be bands of heavier snow. If you happen to be in one of them, you could pick up a quick 1-2”. Here are the Winter Weather Advisories for the Piedmont.

The next concern will be for black ice on Wednesday morning. As the cold air rushes in, the quick temperature drop is likely to cause freezing on roads. Even if your area doesn’t get a lot of snow tonight, icing will still be a possibility by morning.

If that isn’t enough, the biggest threat may be from more cold air. Temperatures are falling through the 30s today and we may not get back above 40 until this weekend.

Make sure you stay safe in the unseasonably cold weather. The last cold snap was technically colder but didn’t even last two full days. This one will span much of the week. The combination of the cold air and the wind will make it quite unpleasant for several days.
