New Chief Executive Officer for Alabama Red Cross Now On the Job

HOOVER, Ala., December 10, 2013 – The Alabama Region American Red Cross is excited to announce that Mark Beddingfield has been selected to serve as the new Alabama Region Chief Executive Officer. Beddingfield possesses more than 17 years’ experience in leadership with the American Red Cross Biomedical “Blood” Services Division and will now lead the Humanitarian efforts for the state of Alabama.

During his time at Blood Services, Mark has been a true leader and a hard working steward of our mission. I am confident Mark is the right choice for our Region’s future,” said Michael Schilleci, Board Chair, Alabama Red Cross.

Beddingfield started his Red Cross career as a Donor Resources District Supervisor and was promoted to Regional Manager after three years. Throughout his Red Cross career Beddingfield served as Director of Production Planning, Chief Operating Officer, and most currently as Chief Executive Officer for the Alabama Biomedical Region. Beddingfield is married with four daughters. He was born and raised in Huntsville and graduated from Athens University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

The board of directors is hosting a reception to welcome Mark Beddingfield to the Alabama Red Cross. The reception will be held on December 11 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Alagasco Midtown Auditorium located at 20 20th Street South in Birmingham. Media interviews will be available.

The American Red Cross Alabama Region provides services to the residents of all 67 counties of Alabama with more than 20 office locations throughout the state.

The Alabama Region:

• Responds to individual disasters in Alabama mainly in the form of single family fires.

• Provides local school children with free community education.

• Provides emergency military communications.

• Trains individuals in First Aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving courses.

• Attends military deployments and provides comfort kits and goody bags for our local soldiers and provides family support services for families at home.

• Is a 97% volunteer organization.
