Central MA - Red Cross Berkshire County Hosts Open House

The American Red Cross Berkshire County Chapter will host an open house on Monday, November 5, 2012 from 2:00pm - 6:00pm. The open house will give community members the opportunity to learn how the Red Cross is able to provide hot meals, a warm place to stay and comfort to the community in times of disasters. Attendees will also meet Red Cross staff and volunteers as well as tour the emergency response vehicle and nurse assistant training facilities,

Thanks to support from individuals, organizations and businesses here in Berkshire County, the American Red Cross is able to respond to disasters both large and small; help members of the military, veterans and their families; provide blood for those in need and teach lifesaving skills.

We want to thank those whose generosity enables us to continue our work, both here at home and around the world. This open house is not only an opportunity for the community to see Red Cross operations first hand, it is an opportunity for the Red Cross Berkshire County to show appreciation for community support.

The Red Cross responds to nearly 70,000 disasters a year in this country, providing shelter, food, emotional support and other necessities to those affected. We provide 24-hour support to members of the military, veterans and their families, collect and distribute nearly 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply and train more than 9 million people in first aid, water safety and other life-saving skills every year.

Last year, our chapter taught 4,400 of lifesaving health and safety training courses including first aid, CPR and more. Each year the Red Cross provides nearly 600,000 services to military members, their families and veterans. Locally, we assist more than 50 military families. Berkshire County served over 1,200 individuals through Disaster Relief and Services and Disaster Education and training programs in FY 11.

Here in the Berkshires, the Red Cross Berkshire County helped over 1,200 individuals through disaster relief and disaster education, assisted more than 50 military families and taught 4,400 lifesaving health and safety training courses including first aid and CPR.
