Red Cross Citizen CPR courses offered at University Subaru

Life-saving technique involves hands only

Red Cross Awareness Week at University Subaru, located at 1200 I-70 Dr. SW, culminates Saturday with a series of events highlighted by two courses in Citizen CPR.

“Citizen CPR involves using only a rescuer’s hands,” said Nancy Sell, American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter community development manager. “The course only lasts 30 minutes and in those 30 minutes someone could learn how to save a life.”

Citizen CPR courses will be offered at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the dealership.

Call 1-800-REDCROSS (733-2767) to register. The cost is $15 per person.

There are several organizations that offer a variety of on-line tools for hands-only CPR. The American Red Cross is the only national organization that offers a hands-only course with a leader to support skills practice.

The significant benefits of a Red Cross hands-only course are:

  • Creating a safer workplace by educating staff in addition to workplace responders
  • Leader-led 30 minute course with skills practice
  • Non-certified to reduce confusion with OSHA recommended training
  • No assessment of skills or knowledge required
  • Free refreshers available through on-line Hands-Only CPR Ready Reference and Video
  • Low-cost ways to provide quality Hand-Only CPR training to groups
  • There also will be a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other items featured during the day include a disaster shelter display, a Red Cross Pet CPR demonstration, a clothing drive and door prizes.
