Red Cross, Entergy Host Luncheon to Welcome Home Hurricane Sandy Volunteers

The American Red Cross and Entergy Corporation recently hosted a welcome home luncheon for volunteers following their service in support of Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Many volunteers helped by responding to both Hurricanes Sandy and Isaac. The luncheon honored their service and dedication to the American Red Cross.

At the luncheon Entergy Corporation announced a $100,000 gift to the American Red Cross in support of relief and humanitarian efforts for those affected by the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricanes Sandy and Isaac.

Entergy also donated $25,000 in funding to support the American Red Cross Senior Backpack initiative. The program provides education and materials to help senior citizens and their caregivers in planning for and coping through disasters. The program aims to help elderly residents living in vulnerable and low-lying areas of Southeast Louisiana.

“When a disaster strikes, the Red Cross is on the scene quickly, providing food, shelter, supplies, volunteers and distribution channels through our chapter network,” said Kay W. Wilkins, American Red Cross South Louisiana Region CEO. “Partners like Entergy fill a significant role in our work, not only in response during a crisis but also in helping to prepare residents and communities. Together, Entergy and Red Cross are working to help communities be prepared so that families, businesses and agencies can get back on their feet as soon as possible.”

“Entergy is proud to support the American Red Cross as a partner in responding to Hurricanes Isaac and now Sandy,” said Manny Silver, regional customer service manager for Entergy. "These two disasters have impacted millions of people and their communities. Entergy and our thousands of employees respond to emergencies by sending help where help is needed. We answered a call for help from electricity providers in the Northeast United States and sent more than 900 linemen and support personnel to assist with recovery and restoration efforts following Hurricane Sandy.”

“We are grateful to Entergy and their generous employees for this significant gift of time and resources to help those still suffering along the East and Gulf Coasts,” Wilkins added, “and we are proud of our partnership. Entergy, through its giving and its response, is demonstrating its commitment to safer, stronger and better prepared communities all across the United States.”
