Red Cross Helping 11 People After Monday Fires in New Haven

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.

The American Red Cross is helping 11 people after fires displaced six families in New Haven on Tuesday, March 19.

Monday evening, the Red Cross responded to a fire on Congress Avenue and provided help with emergency housing, food and clothing needs to one family of one adult and three children. The children were provided stuffed toys.

The Red Cross responded to an early morning fire on Dixwell Avenue and is providing help with emergency housing, food and clothing needs to six adults and one child in five families. The displaced child was also provided a stuffed toy.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits, containing age and gender appropriate personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire. Children's kits include a stuffed toy.
