Red Cross Kicks-off Recovery Campaign at Rally

Red Cross Rally

On November 13, 2012 the Dayton Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted a rally on Courthouse Square for Dayton area residents to show support for their Red Cross and sign holiday cards for soldiers. The purpose of the rally was to kick-off the Red Cross Recovery Campaign. This campaign will help raise funds to offset reduced United Way funding. Funds raised will ensure chapter’s ability to keep Red Cross disaster relief and military support in the Miami Valley.

“In the month, we have all seen how important it is to have disaster relief in the community after the damage Superstorm Sandy left on the coast,” said Marty Hydell, Chair of the Dayton Area Chapter Board. “The Red Cross intends to maintain all its services as mandated by the federal government. To do this we are determined to raise all of the funds.”

As the rally kicked-off, the square was filled with tents and activities. Dignitaries, chapter representatives and community leaders were all present to hear Board Chair, Marty Hydell, President and CEO of DP&L, Phil Herrington, Marketing Manager for 2J Supply Tracy Martin, Volunteer, Carolyn Burns and Fire Client Deborah Lovett share their experiences with the American Red Cross and why they choose to support. “The American Red Cross was there, when no one else was there,” said Deborah Lovett, who shared her testimonial of how her house burnt down in 2009 and the Red Cross immediately came to help.

Additionally, the community came out to sign Christmas Cards for military personnel as part of the Red Cross Holiday for Heroes program.

The Red Cross would like to say thank you to all of those who came out to the rally and show their support! We can’t do this without YOU!
