Red Cross Responds to Weekend Fires in East Central Mississippi; One Fatality

MERIDIAN, MS, MONDAY, JUNE 24, 2013—The American Red Cross East Central Mississippi Chapter responded to four fires this weekend, including one in Lauderdale County that resulted with an adult fatality.

“Our hearts and minds are with the family during this difficult time,” said Gordon Stewart, Readiness and Response Manager for the East Central Chapter. “Our counselors and caseworkers will continue to provide Red Cross services as long as the family needs us.”

Of the four fires, two were in Lauderdale County, one was in Neshoba County, and the other was in Scott County. Red Cross disaster action team (DAT) members assisted affected families with lodging, food, clothing, health services and emotional support.
