The Red Cross will be accepting nominations for local heroes throughout the month...

The American Red Cross Northeastern New York Region is seeking nominations for local lifesavers to be recognized at its 2014 Heroes Breakfast in June.

The Red Cross has a proud tradition of empowering ordinary people to do extraordinary things, and the Heroes Breakfast is a celebration of those who embody this tradition. At the breakfast, the Red Cross will recognize acts of heroism by local residents and pay tribute to those who have performed lifesaving deeds in our community.

As part of March is Red Cross Month, the Red Cross will be accepting nominations for local heroes throughout the month in four categories reflective of the organization's lifesaving programs and emergency services:

  • Life Saving: Someone who saved or assisted in saving a life by performing first-aid, CPR or another Red Cross safety skill.
  • Military: Someone in the military who performed a life-saving act in the line of duty, or a civilian who saved or assisted in saving the life of a military service member.
  • Emergency Relief: Someone who saved or assisted in saving the life of a person affected by an unexpected emergency (i.e. fire, flood, car accident).
  • Blood Giving: Someone who demonstrates a dedication to giving blood in order to save a significant number of lives (1 donation is equal to 3 lives potentially saved).
  • All nominations must be submitted by April 15, 2014. Nominees may be individuals or groups, and need not have prior Red Cross training or volunteer experience. Additional criteria are listed on the 2014 Heroes Nomination Form.

Selected nominees will be honored at the 2014 Heroes Breakfast on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Clifton Park. For more information, or to reserve tickets to attend the event, please visit redcross.org/NENYHeroes2014 or call (518) 458-8111.
