Red Cross Shelter Open in Carrboro - More Storms Threaten

40 Evacuees and Flood Victims Sought Shelter Last Night
Flash floods can be scary and destructive. Our hearts go out to our residents that have lost everything.

The Red Cross shelter at the following location remains open:

Smith Middle School

9201 Seawell School Rd

Chapel Hill, NC ‎ 27516

Overnight the American Red Cross provided shelter for around 40 residents affected by the flash flood that surprised the Chapel Hill area last night. Three communities experienced minor to moderate flooding, however some suffered significant damage to their homes.

The Red Cross shelter housed residents from a few months old, provided lunch today and dinner tonight, along with medical and emotional support.

The disaster shelter will remain open until damage assessment teams complete their work, expected to be today, and the families’ long term needs are assessed. The Red Cross and our partners will help each family recover and begin a new life.
